A WMU is a relay unit subordinated to the WCU. Its purpose is to extend the measuring capabilities of a WCU, such as when measuring on CAN-buses. The WMU unit is connected to an engine and will measure its signals and relay them to the WCU over TCP/IP, which in turn will forward the result(s) to the Portal. This facilitates that the WCU can measure on arbitrarily many CAN-buses as long as sufficiently many WMUs are connected to the WCU.

In addition to configuring WMUs in the I/O configurations-tab, there are also settings for wake, CAN frame ID, and power mode in the Power Management-tab.

For WCU versions 2.90.0 and higher, it is possible to configure the WMUs software version by setting a preferred software version in the WMU tab of the WCU configuration. Once the WMU has reported back, it will be possible to view the current WMU software version in the same WMU tab.

For WCU versions 2.91.0 and higher, on platforms supporting LIN buses WMUs will have configurable LIN buses in addition to the CAN buses. Unlike CAN buses, the LIN buses do not have settings for 'wake on' or 'listen only'.

To read more about adding WMU's, see the Add WMU(s) section in I/O Configurations.
