WCU platform
The Wireless Communication Unit (WCU) is the in-vehicle unit running the WICE WCU software and communicating with the vehicle and the WICE back-end.
WCU:s are identified by a unique text string, which by convention is the MAC address of (one of) the ethernet interfaces in the unit. The WCU id is configured on each WCU (automatically from the MAC address) and is a search parameter available in the WICE Portal web-GUI.
The WCU software is delivered as a self-extracting application installation package, which can be run on the WCU:s manually from a command prompt, using a suitably prepared USB stick, or updated remotely using the WICE Portal mechanism for remote software upgrades (see below).
The WCU hardware platform supports a number of communication interfaces, such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay and Ethernet and can be configured in different ways using the WICE Portal. The WCU platform can also support some limited user-interaction through light-emitting diodes (LED) on the side of the unit. A description of the LEDs is available here.
For the MX-4 platform, the LED handling is as follows.
There are in total five (5) LEDs on the side of the unit. Note that the color of the LEDs are red OR yellow, depending on MX-4 platform type and/or revision.
They are handled as follows.
- Power LED
The power LED is not managed at all by the WiCE components. Consult Host Mobility documentation. - WiFi LED
The WiFi LED is not managed at all by the WICE components. Consult Host Mobility documentation. - GSM LED
If the modem is powered off -> LED is off.
If the WICE system has detected that there is no SIM card -> red/yellow fixed light.
If the modem communication is working, but it has not yet attached to a carrier network -> green blink
If the modem has attached to a carrier network -> green fixed light. - GPS LED
No data from the GPS -> LED is off.
Data is coming from the GPS, but no fix is obtained -> green blink
GPS fix is obtained -> fixed green light - Func LED
The WICE system is not running -> LED off.
The SD card is missing, or read-only -> red/yellow, fixed light
The time is before 2021 (some units boot with 1970, some with 2009 if the clock battery is drained) -> red/yellow blink
Otherwise, fixed green light.
